Flies are probably the most common pest of all time. They seem to thrive anywhere man does. This article will provide general information and control methods that can be used for common house and filth fly problems in and around the home. These treatments will work for most any species but in some cases, a more specific treatment will be needed. Any such treatment will be covered in the corresponding article (links below):

FLY BIOLOGY
Female flies can lay up to 150 eggs in a batch and can produce up to 5-10 batches spaced several days apart. She will lay these eggs on anything organic. This includes garbage, landfills, compost, pet and animal resting areas, kitchens, dumpsters and anywhere organic matter or foodstuff is left in the open and is decaying.
FLIES LAY EGGS EVERYWHERE!
Flies will often lay eggs anywhere, not necessarily on food, and the hatching larvae are quite small. Most people know the maggots flies produce but they were not always that big. They start super small, and emerge from egg clusters which are easily missed in carpeting, baseboards, appliances and almost anywhere around the home.
The hatching maggots will seek food once they hatch. Some species only feed for a few days; others a few weeks. Once satiated, they’ll migrate away seeking a cool dry place where they can pupate. Another week or two they’ll emerge as reproductive adults ready to start the cycle all over again.
You can expect up to 20 generations of these flies in any one summer where it is warm. Adults live for about a month during which time they do nothing but reproduce and bother people.
INSIDE FLY CONTROL
The control of common house flies is fairly easy and there are several treatment options which work well. In general, space sprays (aerosols) work best inside structures. Out in the yard, traps and sprays will kill off active infestations and keep new ones away forcing them to nest elsewhere.
BEST INSIDE FLY SPRAY
Once in the home, a good space spray like MULTIPURPOSE INSECT KILLER will kill off anything flying like moths, wasps, gnats and flies.
Direct the can like hairspray out toward the upper air level in any room you want to treat. Release 5-10 seconds per room and plan on treating 3 times a day to keep local activity neutralized.
For a more “permanent” solution, install AEROSOL MACHINES fitted with CLEAR ZONE REFILLS. These machines are small, about 1/2 the size of a cigar box, and use 4 “D” cell batteries to keep them on. They release 1/2 second of product every 15 minutes and one machine will cover up to 600 sq/ft providing around the clock protection. For many users, this is super convenient compared to manually operating Multipurpose throughout the day. This is especially true if you can’t be around for much of the day.
Keep a good supply of CLEAR ZONE REFILLS on hand. Each can will last about 30 days and will be supplying a supply of active strong enough to control any flying pest.
BEST FLY TRAP FOR INSIDE THE HOME

FLY SPRAY FOR THE YARD
Out in the yard, flies will congregate on structures and live in the grass. Spray these areas with MAXXTHOR EC. This super active spray mixes with water and will kill nesting flies on contact. Treatments will repel flies for 2 weeks as well so plan on treating twice a month during fly season.
Add 1/2 oz per gallon of water when using any standard pump sprayer to treat. Gallons will cover 500-1000 sq/ft.
For small jobs, a good PUMP SPRAYER will be needed.
For the yard, use a HOSE END SPRAYER. With our sprayer, you’ll need to add 1 oz of Maxxthor and then fill the sprayer to the 5 gallon line with water. Now hook it to your garden hose and use the entire contents over 5,000 sq/ft of turf.
FLY REPELLENT FOR PETS AND PEOPLE
For dogs, horses and many other animals, PERMETHRIN 10 can be used to keep away all kinds of summertime flies. Its odorless and can be sprayed, sponged or used as a dip.
BEST FLY REPELLENT FOR PEOPLE
For people, BUG OFF AEROSOL applied once in the morning will keep them away all day.
FLY TRAPS FOR THE YARD CAN HELP
In the yard FLIES BE GONE can help to “intercept” foraging flies by strategically locating them around the edges of your property. Set them away from sitting areas so flies are drawn elsewhere. These traps use a strong fly pheromone they cannot resist and will enter the included heavy holding “bag” that can be recycled for many months of use.
Set 1 trap out for every 5,000 sq/ft of yard.
