PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Base Oil is a super refined, high quality deodorized fuel oil intended for both inside and outside ULV applications and tank mixing of approved pesticides. Rated cleaner than #1 fuel oil, this extra refined deodorized oil can be used in warehouses, food processing facilities, packaging plants and more. It’s virtually odorless and evaporates quickly so if you need a super clean, dry fog, this is your best ULV oil option currently available.
SOLVENT RATINGS: When considering base oil for pesticide mixtures, its important to understand different grades/types. Low grade fuel oil (anything rated at #2 or lower) will have odor, more contaminates and a thicker viscosity.
This short video will let you see how Base Oil penetrates wood so you can understand that if you need to treat for wood destroying pests or behind home siding like stucco, it will enable you to deliver your treatment deeper than any water based mixture.
For thermal fogging, you want your fog to stay in the air the longer the better. Base Oil will get that done the best because it can create more consistent, lighter “fog” since it can create smaller particles. A good quality thermal fogger, like the Curtis Dynafog Golden Eagle and Black Hawk, might be able to create small microns BUT not if you’re using a low grade base. In general, the lower the fuel rating, the thicker the viscosity which leads to particles sticking to one another. Visually this might be appealing (low grade base oil will create a “thicker” fog visually due to the larger particle size) but over all, it won’t be nearly as effective. Thicker oil tend to create larger particles which can’t penetrate boxes, stored grain, packaging, etc. Less penetration potential means less positive results and why the main reason thermal fogging can fail is due to low quality base oil being used in the tank mix.
Side Note: Diesel fuel should never be used since it contains a range of required additives designed for combustion motors. Diesel is refined to include detergents and other components engines need but these ingredients are not compatible with thermal foggers or the local environment. If you consult local laws, there is a good chance the use of gas or diesel fuel to spray weeds or insects would be unlawful. At the very least, it would be frowned upon if not subject to some kind of fine designed to protect the landscape.
As for using diesel in commercial establishment like a food processing plant or warehouse? At the very least, it could easily lead to product/inventory damage or worse, contamination.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: For our line of Curtis Dynafog thermal fogging machines (links below), using a high food grade mineral oil may work but there are inherent risks (filter clogging (mineral oil has a much thicker viscosity), fuel line plaque and the biggest issue we’ve seen, the voiding fogger warranties. To keep sensitive equipment running clean, without voiding the warranty, Base Oil rated is your safest option.
PRODUCT FEATURES: This oil features a super low viscosity along with extensive processing/filtering which produces a super clean, non-corrosive yet highly penetrating finished solution. For fogging, Base Oil helps to create the highest % of small particles possible which in turn allows your approved pesticides to perform at their highest level. Base Oil won’t clog formulation lines (it actually cleans them), muck up filters, gum up carburetors or adhere to holding tanks. And since its clean, odorless and produces such small particles, it can be used to administer the right amount of active without making a mess compared to using a heavier, dirtier oil. This makes Base Oil the best option for use inside structures or when treating sensitive surfaces.
WHERE TO USE IT: Base Oil is strong enough for use in ULV fogging machine’s, both residential and commercial treatments including but not limited to food processing plants, warehouses, commercial kitchens and restaurants. It’s also well suited as base oil for tank mixing approved and compatible EC formulations.
OTHER USES: Virtually odorless, Base Oil is very “flat” allowing it to disperse actives at their smallest size, without clumping, which allows for the best penetration. This is especially helpful when treating porous substrates like cellulose (wood). When used for mixing compatible EC formulations, Base Oil is especially helpful for treating/injecting wood. It won’t stain or leave a visible residue and due to it’s low viscosity, penetrates 2-3 times faster compared to oil based aerosols and over 10x faster compared to water based mixtures. This enables treatments to move deeper/wider/faster compared to traditional mixtures.
Base Oil is approved for use in ULV Thermal Foggers but works extremely well in a spray tank for pesticide’s labeled and compatible for use in oil. Base Oil is approved for use in museums and other “sensitive” environments where one needs to be extra careful to not over apply fogging compounds. Compared to water or aerosols, Base Oil will dry 50-75% faster, be nearly impossible to detect in very little time and ultimately, allow the user to reach their treatment goal that much faster.

Sean Deremiah says
Im looking at purchasing a Golden Eagle thermo fogger and have a few questions. Doe the fogger run on straight unleaded gas or is it a two stroke mixture? Will it be safe to run Pyrocide 100 and Pyrocide 300 through it? How good will it work on American cockroaches in a wet basement under a slaughter house?

Tech Support says
Sean,
First, its a 4 stroke so regular unleaded gas is fine.
Second, if you check the Pyrocide label, you’ll see it has various ways of apply it in thermal foggers like the Golden Eagle. The label we have reviewed says it can be used straight (undiluted) or mixed with an oil suitable for the fogger.
Lastly, if a product label lists a pest, then it will work. You just need to use enough of it. That means since the label says roaches, it will do the job assuming you treat frequently enough using at least the minimum amount needed for the square footage you want to protect.

Can this oil be used in a burgess propane fogger?
Tech Support says
Pat,
It works well in the Burgess machine. Remember, this is a highly “refined” oil so you won’t see the fog as much. But it won’t hurt vegetation like grass, shrubs, flowers, etc. and it can even be used inside the home its so clean and instantly dries.

JACKSON FLORES says
Is This a mineral oil? Can be used in a Tri Jet fogger ULV?
Tech Support says
Jackson,
So no, this is nothing like mineral oil. Min oil is messy and for some applications, acceptable but in many cases, too thick. Our oil is the most refined, almost like alcohol so it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. Details are above. And yes, it can be used in any Fogmaster fogger, thermal fogger, etc. that can fog oil based mixtures.
