Huge grub problem in my yard! Now I get where all those June beetles come from. Want to do a lot of killing but would like to keep the pets safe. Could you point me in the right direction?

In fact most all of our products can be used safely where people and pets reside. When used properly and application guidelines are followed, there is little to no chance of problems. In general you need to keep the pets and kids away when treating and allow for adequate dry time before letting them back over treated areas.

After viewing these, go to our GRUB CONTROL article where you can learn more about grubs including how to treat for them and what products are needed. In general, the best approach is to apply MAXXTHOR GRANULES and then spray over the top with MAXXTHOR EC. If you keep pets off the treatment for a day, there will be no risk to them in the days following the treatment.
Now if you want something more “green”, there are products that can be used in place of the two mentioned above. These are made with food grade actives and are “exempt” from federal registration. They actually work although they don’t last as long and tend to be a more costly. We have two, the XEMPT GRANULES and XEMPT CONCENTRATE.

What if my dogs eat the grubs after I treat the lawn?

There would be no problem for your dogs or any other animal for that matter. Here’s why.
First, any of the products featured above will not pose a hazard to people or pets when used properly. So pets and people walking over the treatment will not be exposed to any significant amount of active and therefore, not presented with any kind of hazard.
Second, the amounts of actual active ingredient which filter down into the ground and eventually affect target insects like grubs are even less % wise. And once they affect the targeted insects, these insects die as result of being exposed to these chemicals and not because the active ingredient accumulates in the insect. This means if you were able to somehow measure the grubs for the chemical, you’d find they don’t have any inside them, on their skins, etc. Therefore if an animal like your pet was to eat any dead insects, there would be no exposure to any kind of chemical.
Lastly, if for some reason you’re still not comfortable applying the Merit and Cyonara (clearly the stronger option listed above), go with the organic options listed. These would be the Essentria Granules and the Organic Grub Killer.
You see, the actives used in these products are so safe they can’t hurt people or pets even if they’re ingested directly.
