PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Sand like treated granules designed to last throughout rain and sun when applied to turf around the home. Once applied, the the active will release slowly over 30-45 days. During this time, dirt dwelling insects will be controlled and eradicated.
ACTIVATION: No special “activation” is required once applied. If you’re spraying our MAXXTHOR EC over the area with granules, the watering in of the Maxxthor will effectively initiate the process. If using the granules only, normal rainfall, watering the yard or just regular levels of humidity will get them released over 30 days.
** REMEMBER MAXXTHOR GRANULES ARE DESIGNED TO RELEASE SLOWING AND PERCOLATE DOWN INTO THE DIRT TARGETING GROUND DWELLING PESTS. LIQUID TREATMENTS WITH MAXXTHOR EC ARE DESIGNED TO GET PESTS ON TOP OF THE SOIL SO EVERYTHING ABOVE GROUND **
Think of granules as part of the 1-2 punch required to control a range of pests around the home including what you see on the list below. That being said, they’re designed to release slowly so they WILL NOT KILL QUICKLY but instead are designed to target the developing stages deep down in the ground. For anything above ground, you must use our liquid sprays!
TARGET PESTS: Just about everything including ants, centipedes, clover mites, fleas, fire ants, millipedes, mole crickets, psocids, ticks, springtails, pillbugs, sowbugs, crane flies, turf weevils, webworms, billbugs, chinch bugs and more.
WHERE TO USE IT: For use around the home in flower beds, grass, pine islands and mulch areas.
RATE OF APPLICATION: Conveniently packaged in 11 plastic jugs, 1 lb will treat 500-1000 sq/ft. So each jug can treat 5,500 to 11,000 sq/ft.
So lets say you wanted to treat a 10 foot band around your homes perimeter and each side of the home is 50 feet wide. You would need about 1/2 to 1 lb per side.
This short video (less than 1 minute long) provides a great tip from a customer on how you can easily apply these without using a spreader.
The rule to follow for the rate is to use 1 lb per 1,000 sq/ft if you are targeting pests in the ground like springtails, grubs or mealybugs.
For large crawling pests like ants, centipedes, ticks or sowbugs, use 2 lbs per 1,000 sq/ft.
This short video (less than 1 minute long) explains why we can’t recommend any setting on a brand of granule spreader we don’t know and even for the ones we carry, we always recommend you start with the lowest setting possible.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD IT BE APPLIED: This will vary depending on the local weather and pest problem. So for initial infestations, renew the granules once a month until they’re gone. Once the problem is under control, treat once every 3 months to make sure the problem pest does not return.

Really works!!!!! I had no doubts about this product. Whenever I have any pest problem, I go to BugSpray.com for assistance. Their tech team is knowledgeable and helpful in advising which product to use. I was told that I would see results in two to three days, however I actually saw results within 24 hours. No more mounds of ants in the yard. We are able to camp in peace without these little warriors. I will always use and continue to refer this company to others. Thanks BugSpray.com!!!!!

How do you apply the product MAXXTHOR SG 12.5 lawn granules?
THANKS

Personally I just “sprinkle” them out using the container they’re packed in. I used to use my hand spreader but the jug is way easier to use. Pull or push “fertilizer” type spreaders will work too.

Kim says
Do springtails carry the maxxthor granules back to their “nest”? I am wondering how the nest is destroyed.
Tech Support says
Kim,
If you read through our springtail article, you will learn springtails exist everywhere in “pockets”. These serve as “nests” but there is no major location for them. In other words, they exist everywhere so you never get rid of them, your goal is simple: get rid of the pockets on the home, in the home and adjacent to the home.
That being said, the Maxxthor Granules applied outside will slowly release and seep down into the ground. This will kill off all that are developing in the treated zone. This means no “new” ones can migrate up onto the building.
After the granules are applied, you need to spray the Maxxthor EC over the top to kill all the ones that are active. This will in turn kill the ones you see. Combined with the granules, you will eventually not see anymore.
Lastly, if they’re inside, use the Alpine Aerosol for spot treating and the Bithor for the most comprehensive, cost effective treatment.

I’m having a problem with chiggers, springtails, and psocids. Will these granules treat these bugs? Also, will Maxxthor ec knockdown these bugs as well?
Tech Support says
Erica,
The Psocids and springtails develop in the ground so yes, the granules will help for them around the home. But on the home you’ll need to spray the Maxxthor Sprayer here:
Maxxthor EC: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/liquid/maxxthor-ec
And for inside the home, the Bithor or FS MP Aerosol will be needed, maybe both, depending on the level of the problem.

I’m glad to have the opportunity to review the Bugspray products and customer service. We have only been using their products for about 2-3 weeks, BUT, we are very impressed. Customer service is good, quick and helpful. The Maxxthor EC and granules are definitely helping to eliminate our clover mites. Also, the Bithor and the FS-MP spray. We have had clover mites ever since we moved into our new home in 2016. We have a pest company currently, and had another one. We decided we need to become more pro-active and do something ourselves to help KILL THE CLOVER MITES. I believe with my whole heart, this company and their products is going to be the help we NEED! Thank you, Nancy Carver

There has been web worms in my locust trees the past few years. Last fall I had someone come out and attach a few things into the tree.. honestly do not know what they attached.. I am not sure if i should wait and see if what they did will keep the web worms out of the tree or go ahead and use something now. Do you have something to use BEFORE there are webs in the tree ?
Tech Support says
Janine,
If you’re smart, you’ll apply Maxxthor granules around all affected trees now and then spray with our Maxxthor EC. How to use both are in our article here where you can order as well.

I’m very excited to find out this company and purchase insect treatment materials which helped me better then two other companies that came to my house to treat the same problems .
I really thank you!

1.5 years ago when we were literally infested with clover mites, and considering MOVING just to get away from them, and our house is new. We are in a very sunny location and in one room it was awful.
Anyway, they suggested the Maxxthor granules along with 2 other products. Together all 3 of them have eliminated (so far) our clover mite issue.
They were kind to tell us a schedule to apply treatment and my husband does that faithfully, and it is helping.
They are quick and very reliable. We are glad we found them, not even our quarterly bug company could rid us from clover mites.
Thank you very much!

Lance says
I’m planning to put down some granules around the perimeter of my home. If I pressure wash my house after doing so, does it have a negative impact on the granules?
Thanks!
Tech Support says
Lance,
The act of pressure washing the side of your home will have no direct impact on the granules you apply to the ground. That being said, I’m not entirely sure you asked the right question so you have forced us to speculate.
We say this because people have been known to add some very caustic actives to their pressure washer tank and these will certainly destroy any pesticide. So if you are adding an agent like bleach or some kind of cleaner, the pressure treatment will render the treatment useless indirectly as the spray runs off the home and onto the granules.

Excellent for sprintails! I purchased this product after reading the springtail guide on here. I used half of the jug for approx. 2,600 square feet of grass and mulch beds, followed by an immediate spraying of the Maxxthor liquid, as recommended on the guide. For the lawn, I used my Scotts rotary spreader on the lowest setting (literally the lowest setting between the 2 and 15 because the granules are so powdery). For the planted mulch beds, I poured some granules in a paper cup and hand spread them. 4 weeks later, I spread the remaining half of the jug and sprayed again. In between the 4 weeks, I also followed the other recommended steps (dusting voids, spraying the interior and exterior as required). So far, I have gone from seeing dozens of springtail’s inside/thousands outside all over my siding per day to seeing maybe 1-2 per day max, on some days I don’t see a single one. This product has worked very well, it just requires diligent effort on your part to attack the problem from different angles.
cc says
Hi,
Is springtails now forever gone? What’s the total time for completely resolve the issue?
Tech Support says
CC,
Springtails are natures more important recycler so they can never be “gone forever”. In fact they exist everywhere and why they can be such a persistent pest once on the home.
.
To get control of any on or inside your home, you’ll need to treat as our article above details. Maxxthor granules and spray for the outside and then inside, the FS MP Aerosol for all cracks and crevices and Bithor as the surface spray.

Hi,
Can I use MAXXTHOR SG 11 LB LAWN GRANULES around the fruit tree since we have two pear trees in the lawn.
Tech Support says
Leslie,
You can. These granules release very slowly and will only penetrate down a few inches. Additionally it does not work as a systemic so there will be no hazard presented to the tree.

I have been fighting ground scales for 3 years. I purchased Maxxthor SG and applied 3 times last year. I have several large spots of grass dead. Will I need to apply again this year before re-soding the grass. Would it be better to cultivate dead spots and mix Maxxthor in with the soil before installing sod this spring? I tried to call your number and it’s no good any more. Is their another number? Do I need to use liquid with granular Maxthor? Appreciate any help with my grass. Bill
Tech Support says
Will,
So first, our number is active and still the same; 770-985-9388 for local customers and anyone out of state, toll free at 1-800-877-7290. And its working fine, getting calls like normal.
Second, did you read through our Ground Pearl article? The most important thing to do now is to get your PH right first and the winter is a great time to do this:
Ground Pearls: https://bugspray.com/ground-pearl-control.html
After that, spray the soil with the Maxxthor EC before sodding. Let it sit for 1-2 days before resodding and then you should be good using the granules every 1-2 months during the summer/fall following spring treatments.

Can granules be spread using a wet/dry hose end sprayer? I need to spread the granules under an enclosed porch.
Tech Support says
Dave,
The short answer is no. If you want to spray under the porch, get a sprayer like this:
.
Hose End: https://bugspray.com/equipment/sprayers/20-gal-hose-end
.
And then some liquid Maxthor:
.
Maxxthor EC: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/liquid/maxxthor-ec
.
The granules can be sprayed our with a Scatterbox Spreader:
.

.
Or you can “throw” it out assuming you can reach all corners effectively.

Just spread the granules using the ziplock bag tip, I saw it on one of your videos!! It’s so much easier spreading them like that ? thank you!
Tom says
Hi,
I was wanting to know what setting I should use on a Scott’s broadcast spreader mini with edge guard.
Thanks,
Tom
Tech Support says
Tom,
We have no certain answer since all spreaders are “different” and we don’t know this model.
.
With that being said, we recommend you start on the lowest setting. Its always easier to adjust to “higher” setting later if the low setting is “too low”. But if you start with it too high, you’ll waste product by over applying it in a small area.
.
Just remember to follow our guidelines meaning use the right amount per 1,000 sq/ft as detailed above. And if your spreader isn’t working as well as you’d like, watch the video above and use the “sandwich bag” tip! It definitely allows you to control just how much you’re applying so you’ll get an accurate application every time!

Mark D says
Hi, are the granules effective of applied over pea gravel and landscaping stones?
Tech Support says
Mark,
100% yes. But to be clear, its important to understand just “what” granules do. First, the short summary.
.
So outside, granules slowly release over the course of 30 days and are designed to get soil dwelling pests – not surface pests. You can use them over turf, flower beds, gravel, rocks, pine straw, etc. But if you don’t spray too, you won’t affect anything “above” where the granules settle.
.
This video details the differences and is worth the watch. It also talks about the two products needed for inside the home; essentially the same concept meaning an aerosol for deep penetration and a surface spray for what you see moving about.

Great products for springtails! I bought a new construction home that was built on old hay field that apparently had a number of springtail nests. My house was being over run with the spring tails. The granules and sprays worked well. It did take some time but website information was spot on for the expected amount of time to get the critters under control. The products were easy to apply especially after watching the videos provided. I am at the moment springtail free and would recommend the treatments.

Hello,
My house surrounding with turf and rocks, is it still effective to apply on the rocks? Do I need to have someone remove rock for me first then spray on soil directly?
Please advise, thank you.
Tech Support says
CC,
Springtails will thrive under rocks and so treat them by sprinkling granules over them and then the spray, same way as the ground is treated. Rocks will usually “absorb” the spray making them really good to have because they will “hold” the chemical well providing longer residual than normal.

We had a springtail invasion starting in December 2023. I had never heard of these bugs before and was completely lost. Had no idea how to keep them out of my house. Called our pest control company and they would come out with their products but with no avail. They came right back! I was going crazy! Thank God they were only in our bathroom and all over our siding. When i finally found Bugspray.com I emailed and got a response in a very timely manner. The customer service rep explained in great detail what we needed to do. It seemed like a lot of time and money but was willing to do almost anything. I ordered what was recommended and followed the detailed instructions. It took about a month before I got these little unwanted friends under control. The products and instructions were a Godsend! If you are in the same situation and followed the steps precisely, they will stay out of your house. It does take 1 to 2 years (at least for my situation) to keep them out for good.
