I have roughly 10,000 sqft on a river very close to the marshes and grasslands of the Gulf Coast on the west coast of Florida. We have rocky shoreline with docks. We have noseeums, mosquitoes, and dear flies all of which have their peak times of the year and are horrendous even on our deck 14 feet above the ground. From reading your article it would seem to me that the back pack fogger along with Pyrethrum 6% would be the best knock down for all of the above. I also noted that for around the water the article appears to suggest using ESSENTRIA IC mixed with an deodorized oil. Maybe a couple of blockers on the deck also? Anything for the larval states in the ground? Is this correct? Is this the best solution for all these horrendous insects? Thanks.
You are pretty close to spot on with what you thinking to use. I happen to maintain a lot on the Chattahoochee river around 1 acre. Half of its landscaped; the other half is wild. The main targets for me are mosquitoes, gnats and biting flies but my treatments will easily handle ants, crickets and roaches. I’m typically mist blowing with 2-3 types of products depending on where I’m spraying and what I’m targeting.
Either way, the MIST BLOWER is the way to go. Its portable, easy to handle and very efficient. It will make any lot 1 acre or less seem small. I only need 2-3 gallons of mixed material to treat the entire acre and I can do so in less than 10 minutes. In fact it can take me 5 minutes to get the tank ready; just 7-8 minutes to spray out the entire 3 gallons of mixed product. But the mist does such a great job of blanketing all the vegetation, trees, etc. that its well worth the investment.

Now when I target mosquitoes and gnats, the mixture of PERM SFR, EXCITER and NYLAR is ideal. The Exciter will provide a quick kill, the Perm SFR a long lasting residual and the Nylar a sure way to kill eggs.
Permethrin SFR: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/liquid/perm-sfr
6 % Pyrethrin: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/liquid/exciter-16-oz
Nylar: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/igr/igr-nylar
I typically don’t treat the rivers edge but if I do, its with ESSENTRIA IC. And there is no need to mix it with oil; this would only be needed if you were using our THERMAL FOGGER to apply it. But when treating with the mist blower, water as the carrier is all you need.
Essentria IC3: https://bugspray.com/exempt/liquid/eco-excempt-gal
Golden Eagle: https://bugspray.com/equipment/foggers/golden-eagle-hot-fogger
So for you situation, I’m confident the Perm SFR, Exciter and Nylar will handle most anything that comes flying or crawling onto your treated landscape. And for the sensitive water areas, the Essentria be almost as effective. The only tradeoff with the Essentria is that it won’t last nearly as long. But for sensitive areas, its by far the best option.
Now something to remember is that you will need to treat on a regular basis to insure these pests don’t keep coming back and reinfesting. Unfortunately I can’t say for sure how long you’ll be able to wait but as a general rule, one should start by treating at least once a week. And if that proves effective, try going 10 days in between treatments. But at no point should you wait longer than 14 days. Simply put, this would give local pests too much time to rebound and once they get established again, they can be tough to knock out.
Lastly, some MOSQUITO BLOCKERS set out on your deck or patio where you like to sit would definitely help. Mind you they’re not designed to solve problems but rather make things comfortable. This can prove helpful when entertaining guests or if you like to sit outside for extended periods of time. During such activities, your emission gases can travel well off your land and in turn, attract pests from outside the treated area. Blockers will stop this from happening so can prove helpful if you plan on staying outside during the evening for any extended length of time.
