Hello, I am looking to get PERMETHRIN 10 to spray my yard for deer or horse flies and I also wanted to know if you have a product that is similar to Mosquito YardShield that I can also purchase? And if yes, will your product work in the Yardshield blower attachment?

Yardshield uses a 9% Permethrin as its active. We have a 10% (PERM10) but we also have a 36% PERMETHRIN which is the best value for horse flies, mosquitoes and other flying pests.

Now personally I use a similar product known as BIFEN. It’s odorless but stronger for crawling insects like ants, spiders and roaches which I deal with just as much the flying pests on my property so its the best choice for my needs. But for flying pests, Permethrin based products do the job well too.

Regardless of which you choose, the key when treating flying pests is to use one of the fogging machines we have listed. This insures you get adequate coverage on all the plants, landscaping and structures where they can hide. If you review our horse fly article, you’ll find we have several options listed. In general, you want to make sure you have enough machine for the size of the area you want to treat.

So for yards up to 3/4 of an acre, you’ll need at least the FM6208 or FM6309. I have 3/4 of an acre and swear by the BACK PACK MIST BLOWER. I only need 1-2 gallons of mixed solution and I can treat the entire lot in under 4 minutes if I move rapidly. Typically I’ll spend 5-7 minutes as I meander around but my point is being mobile without an electric cord will save time and is well worth the extra cost.

Now will the Yardshield attachment do the job? Yes, its similar compared to the Back Pack Mist Blower. But it won’t provide the same flow of chemical nor will you be able to reach nearly as far. But its an economical option for sure and if you’re only treating 10,000 sq/ft or less, a viable way to proceed.
