For the past few days there has been these tiny bugs coming from my sink. At first I thought they were going to the sink – now I think they’re coming up from the pipes!! Is this possible? I’ve tried pouring bleach down the drain but that doesn’t seem to help. These are small insects that kind of look like fleas but there are thousands in my two sinks pretty much every day.
You most likely have springtails, ants, crickets, booklice, thrips or some kind of drain fly. Many insects will thrive in drain lines and for the most part, do so undetected.
But when populations get big? They’ll start migrating out to open areas like the sink and from there, countertops and then to other parts of the home.
To end the invasion, there are two products needed.
First use Enz A Bac once a week. Add 2-3 oz in 32-64 oz of warm water and pour the slurry down the affected sink in the evening just before you retire. Enz A Bac is comprised of active enzymes that will “eat” anything organic in your drain line. Removing the organic matter will be removing any insect pest needs to live.
The following “short video” (less than 60 seconds long) gives a quick overview of how it works:
Enz A Bac and the products listed below are perfectly safe for your drain lines whether they’re made of metal or PVC. And neither treatment will impact septic systems.
Plan on treating at least the affected drain but typically treating all drains on the same floor would be best.
The second treatment is kill off the active insects there now. This treatment is the only insecticide labeled for use down drains.
We have two forms that can be used; the LEMON AIR which is the “lemon smelling” option and then the SANNI SHINE which is the more “commercial grade” formulation.
Both are super easy to use and can be applied ANY NIGHT OTHER THAN THE NIGHT YOU USE ENZ A BAC.
To use, add 4 oz to a gallon of water and treat all sinks, shower drains and tub drains with 1/2 gallon of mixed solution.
After the first treatment, wait 3 days and do a followup treatment focusing on the one sink or drain that had the problem with another full gallon.
The following “short video” (less than 60 seconds) shows how to apply Lemon Air. Sanni Shine should be used the same way but you only need half as much since its twice as strong.
After the first two treatments, treat as needed.
In general, two treatments will end the problem BUT if you’re still seeing them 1 week after you first start, treat again and follow this process until you are no longer seeing them.
Now if by chance you start noticing them coming out of the countertop around infested sinks? Then take the Lemon Air or Sanni Shine mixture and “wipe” down the countertop and all cracks and crevices being sure to let the treatment “soak” into the grout and gaps. This is where these pests will be surely hiding and its important all areas are covered/saturated with the mixture to end the invasion.
Sanni Shine won’t be a danger when applied to sensitive areas – even where you prepare food – because it breaks down within 20 minutes.
That being said, its not your “strongest” option so if the pests have moved to the cabinet, you’ll need some of our FS MP AEROSOL.
The following video is long but details how to treat the sink and cabinets around the sink using FS MP.
As you can see in the video, using the crack and crevice straw is the sure way to knock out any pest that might have migrated to the cabinets so well your time and effort to do the proper application.
In general, one can of FS MP will be enough to treat the average problem in any kitchen with enough for a few treatments.

How does this product differ from your lemon drain product?
Tech Support says
Beth,
Its not much different actually. The two are made by the same company and use the same active. But there are two differences.
.
1) Sanni Shine is twice as strong as Lemon Air so you only need 2 oz per gallon of water compared to 4 oz of Lemon Air per gallon.
.
2) Sanni Shine has no odor; Lemon Air, as the name implies, smells like Lemons.

.
Other than that, both are applied the same way and will accomplish the same thing 🙂

Are your products safe to use with a septic system?
Tech Support says
Veronica,
Neither the Enz A Bac or the Sanni Shine listed above will affect septic systems or your drain pipes no matter if they’re PVC or metal.
