I need advice on getting rid of blue tailed skinks in my garage. I keep finding little droppings around the door. At first I thought they were mice but then I saw one run away when I went to leave. There is a gap around the door they’re using and I can’t seal it up.
If you review our LIZARD CONTROL article, you’ll learn about several products we have to that can be applied to both take away their food and chase them from treated areas. Any combination of these can resolve your problem quickly.
Now if you’re seeing them in your garage, its because they have established themselves around the home. And chances are high they’ve done this because you have good shelter and food. Skinks will readily use shrubs and most any ground cover as nest sites and once established in these areas, some will end up foraging onto the side of your home and from there, into living areas, garages, etc.
To make them not want to be around, you should first spray all the ground cover, plants, flowers, etc. around the home using MAXXTHOR EC.
Maxxthor will control most all insects and by killing of the food animals like skinks need, they’ll be forced to move elsewhere to find food.
Maxxthor was created to protect plants and trees from damaging insects and to stop invasive pests from entering a home.
For use around the home and on the turf, plan on using 2.5 oz in our 20 gallon hose end sprayer per treatment.
The following “short video” (less than 60 seconds) shows how to use it in our sprayer.
As the video above explains, the 2.5 oz will make up a total of 5 gallons so plan on using 1-2 gallons per side of the home.
Our YELLOW TOPPED HOSE END SPRAYER will be the easiest to use and most effective. The mixing ration and directions is the same as the video above shows when its used in the Green Sprayer.
BEST SKINK DETERRENT
Next, after the Maxxthor treatment dries (which should only take 30-60 minutes), apply PEST AWAY SPRAY. This spray works to provide a long lasting residual around the home skinks won’t like which in turn will keep them from living, foraging or nesting in the treated areas.
The following “short video” (less than 60 seconds) gives a brief summary of how Pest Away works.
Spray the entire perimeter of the garage making sure to get some into any crack or crevice where you’ve seen skinks active or hiding.
Mix 2 oz to a gallon of water and plan on getting around 800 sq/ft of coverage per mixed gallon.
When used alone, the spray will do its job but only last a month. When used with the granules, you’ll get 2-3 months of protection per liquid application.
Lastly, set out 3-6 LIZARD TRAPS in the garage to help get rid of the current population. These should be replaced every 3 months or sooner if they get filled with skinks.

Will these products remove King skinks from in my roof space? Also does it kill them?

The two repellents will work and it won’t harm them or anything else. Basically where applied the skinks will leave.
First set out the granules at a rate of 1 lb per 250 sq/ft. By themselves, the granules won’t work but what they do is “lock” the liquid in place. This enables the liquid to last 60+ days compared to using just the liquid which will only last 30 days. Apply the liquid at a rate of 1 quart for every 125 sq/ft.

These products are not harmful to anything. They use all natural plant oils for actives and though reptiles and amphibians find the oils offensive and stay away from where the items are applied, the actives will not harm them or any other animal like people, pets, plants, etc.

If products only deter them does that mean once I rid my home of them I’ll have to continue to do this every 60 days indefinitely? Also – there is small hole in the brick martor on a windowsill. It appears that there is more than one large-medium and new baby skinks going in and out of the hole. I’ve also seen them crawling on my carport and up the side of my home and slipping under the Eve/facia siding. I’m afraid they’ll soon be getting into my home or car! If I use the products outside around my house and they happen to be in these places at the time, will it prevent them from coming out of the holes and flush them inside? HELP. I can’t even enjoy my front port swing any longer.

First, skinks using holes, cracks or crevices on the home where you spray will not be “trapped”. Any in the area will leave when they emerge and stay away.
Second, the skinks you have active are “trained” and successful finding food there. Once you treat, they will leave the area and in a few days, find a new place to hang out and find food. So even as the treatments wear down, they will not move back immediately for the same reason they have not left your home right now. Now does this mean you should not retreat? No, you probably should. 2-3 times a year is usually all it takes once they are gone. Or you could wait it out till they return and then treat. With any luck, they may not come back for many months.
Lastly, treatments will get fast results. So if you spray the ground around the car, they will not go on it either.

Hello, the skinks are entering our house through the holes in our balcony door, we are in a ground floor apartment, PLEASE HELP, I can’t even enjoy sitting in my balcony garden. The actually come inside my house and stand near the door, I don’t know what to do.

Hi, this was very helpful. I ordered the granules and the pest rid spray. Is this safe to sprinkle and activate in my herb and vegetable garden to repel deer as well as the skinks who are taking up residence in the outdoor sofas?
