I got some of your prothor last year and used it in my yard for ants. I treated once in June and they were gone. I read in your newsletter in Sept that we should treat again to prevent fall pests so I did. Now it’s spring and I’m wondering if I should spray again? My neighbor got them bad this weekend and I told him about your site so he ordered the same stuff. But my yard doesn’t have any. He also has springtails inside and said you have the most information he’s ever seen on them so he got some other things too. Now I’m worried. How do I know if I have springtails and can I use prothor inside? I don’t want them. I went over so he could show me. They were in his tub and the front side of house had these red mites too. He also said the tub upstairs had them but no where else. I would go crazy if they were in my home so do I use the prothor now before we get them?
So first, read up on springtails by visiting this page:
what do you recommend for springtails and how much should I get?
We checked your address and can see your neighbors order so when he gets his products, we suggest you visit him to see what he does. SPRINGTAILS in the home can be challenging because they’re the opposite of ants. What we mean by this is that ants forage out in the open so when you have them active, they’re easy to spot.
Springtails are very different. They don’t want to be seen. Like termites, they’ll live happily ever after under baseboards, in wall voids, around gutters and under home siding as well as in drain lines and under tubs or showers. But when they get in the mood to reproduce, they’ll start coming out and that’s when you’ll see them. The challenge is that surface spraying won’t get a springtail infestation eradicated. With ants, all you have to do is spray where you see them using our PROTHOR (outside) or ADVION (for inside) and since they can’t detect it, they’ll walk over it and bring some back to their nest which will kill them all.
But with springtails, the ones you see are mating and so they don’t plan on returning to their nest. And once they “get in the mood”, they can be seen coming out into the open all year long! This means if you don’t get the ones hiding in all the spaces mentioned above, you could be seeing new ones faster then the spray you’re applying can kill them! This is why we have so many articles on springtails; they’re all written to help our customers understand that if they want to purge their home springtails and not keep seeing them, it will require a lot of very specific treatments to reach their nests using our POWER INJECTOR and the right products.
In fact these two pests (ants and springtails) can be used to illustrate the difference between insects that can be eradicated from a home or yard vs pests which are what we call “chronic”.
Ironically this is a lot like medicine. That’s right, what your Doctor might prescribe. I state “ironically” because the same pharmaceutical companies that make the bulk of the medicines we take also make most of our pesticides. And specifically many of the insecticides. In fact there are many active ingredients used for pest control which are eerily similar to the molecular structure of many medicines! This may explain why so many of our customers call or email saying they want to get some roach “medicine” or bug “meds”. During their lives or someone who influenced them pointed out this fact or subconsciously, they recognized the similarities. Regardless, both came into existence to make human life “better”. And though both medicine/pharmaceutical prescriptions and insecticides can be mishandled or even abused, this was not the intent of their designers.
And so there are other similarities between the two. It turns out that like many common medicines, there are super effective drugs that can knock out and cure a disease for good. And so when treated early, disease like Malaria, Syphilis, Cholera and Lymphatic Filariasis can be purged from an infected individual and not come back.
And the same is true with certain treatments for certain pests. Insect issues with Ants, Cow Killers, Sow Bugs, Yellow Jackets, Chiggers and Pill Bugs can be eliminated from the yard and garden for good when the right treatments are deployed in the right amounts.
Unfortunately, there is a long list of what we call “chronic” disease (and chronic pests) which is something even the very best medicine cannot “cure” for good. In many cases, patients with these diseases have to take meds for years and sometimes for the rest of their lives. Diseases that fall into that group would include Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, Autoimmune and Kidney disease.
And well, when it comes to insect pests, we have many that are very similar in that it can be challenging to “purge” them from a building. The short list of these pests for outside of the home would include Ground Pearls, Stink Bugs and Termites. For inside the home, Clover Mites and Springtails but also Carpet Beetles and Clothing Moths.
In summary, if you don’t want to have ants in the yard, plan on treating every 2-3 months so probably 3-4 times a year and you should be good. But if you ever get something like clover mites, springtails or ground pearls, plan on treating monthly if you don’t want to see them again. Now will your home require monthly treatments for sure? We can’t say. Every home is different. That said, here’s what we can say with some confidence.
25% of our customers who have had these chronic pests treat monthly, some even more, to insure they don’t come back. And they all report being 100% satisfied.
25% of our customers are likely to skip months here and there and they report that in general, they don’t have issues but reminded to treat if they go too long without doing an application.
As for the remaining 50%; they’re the customers who typically wait till they have a problem and then treat. They’re still happy with their results; they’re content enough with seeing them return after awhile if they aren’t treating so their level of satisfaction is still high because they know they can get rid of them.
The moral of these %’s is that not every home owner has the same goal. Some don’t want to see any ever again; some are fine seeing them year after year because they know what to do to get rid of them.
The good news is our granules and spray used outside will keep them in check assuming they’re applied once a month, every month. But once they get into the hidden spaces of your home (short list above), it can be difficult to reach all their remote nests and so when they decide to start migrating out – whether for food or to reproduce – you won’t be rid of them for good until you Power Inject enough to reach their nests and effectively kill every one inside your home’s hidden spaces.
