WHY HOSE END SPRAYERS ARE IDEAL FOR OUTSIDE APPLICATIONS
In general, we always recommend using a Hose End Sprayer to apply any of our insecticides, herbicides or fungicides around your home. There are a few reasons for this.
HOSE END SPRAYERS ARE SUPER EASY TO USE!
Just add the chemical, some water, hook them to your hose and let the water pressure do the work. So there are no moving parts, nothing to break and no physical effort required to power the sprayer. It just doesn’t get any easier.
ALL OUTSIDE APPLICATIONS REQUIRE A LOT OF WATER.
Regular pump sprayers or back pack sprayers will never be able to deliver the right amount of water needed to get your application properly distributed over the plants foliage and more importantly, into the ground where it can do its job.
WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR ANY APPLICATION TO WORK.
Without water, you’d never be able to deliver the chemical. So think of all that water as the “messenger” and the message its delivering? The chemical you’re applying.
All that said and done, there are some rules to follow when picking what sprayer is best for your task.
HOSE END SPRAYER RULES
RULE #1
Pick the sprayer best suited for your needs. As you’ll learn, the Yellow Top sprayer will be best for lawn treatments where the spray needs to be directed down. But if you need to reach up high, the Blue or Green topped sprayers will be your best option. They can spray “down” too BUT they have a removable tip and when removed, they will spray as far as your garden hose water pressure will normally reach.
RULE #2
ALWAYS DO A “TEST RUN” OR TWO WITH NOTHING BUT WATER IN THE SPRAYER! This ensures you’ll have a good understanding of how fast you need to move when spraying as well as how fast your water flow will empty your hose end sprayer.
We have learned everyone “walks” or “moves” at a different pace and if you’re too slow? Practicing will reveal this pattern.
That being said, a strong water flow can do cause a tank to empty super fast and why you may need to keep the water spigot partially closed. These variables cannot be known without doing a “practice run” so using nothing but water, do a “mock” application and repeat until you get both the pace of movement and the water flow required for a precise treatment. It generally takes 1-2 tries to learn but worth the practice and remember, its always best to spray when the ground is damp anyway so no harm is practicing 1-2 prior to the “real” application.
Now watch this short video (less than 60 seconds) which details how a hose end sprayer works and why its an essential tool for outside treatments.
NOW LETS COMPARE THE BEST HOSE END SPRAYERS
20 GALLON HOSE END SPRAYERS
SPRAYER DESCRIPTION: We carry many hose end sprayers but our most popular are the 20 GALLON models. The 6 GALLON is a close third choice.
The following short video (less than 1 minute) covers the basic difference between the two 20 gallon hose end sprayers we carry.
YELLOW HOSE END SPRAYER
The Yellow 20 Gallon Model features a spinning “hose connector” so it easily connects to your garden hose. It also “spins” 360 degrees on the sprayers lid making it very easy to maneuver throughout the yard when spraying. This can be seen in the video above.
However, this sprayer can ONLY SPRAY A LIMITED DISTANCE as it deflects the spray into a wide pattern. This pattern is ideal for spraying the lawn, garden and the side of your home up to around 10-15 feet. But if you need to spray high locations, get the GREEN HOSE END SPRAYER (seen below) because its tip can come off and it can reach up as far as your water pressure can normally spray. For many homes, this will be 25+ feet.
IF YOU NEED TO SPRAY HIGH, GET THE GREEN HOSE END
As detailed in the video above, this sprayer will work just like the yellow one above BUT without its tip deflector connected, it can reach heights of 25 feet or more. This makes is ideal for treating trees, soffits, overhangs and rain gutters where wasps, carpenter bees, stinkbugs and other invasive pests typically use to invade.
20 GALLON HOSE END
6 GALLON HOSE END IDEAL FOR FOUNDATION AND HOME SIDING SPRAYING
The 6 Gallon Hose End below works exactly like the 20 Gallon Green sprayer but only requires 6 gallons of water to empty its contents. This makes it ideally suited for most all foundation spraying and home siding applications when reaching high locations is required.
WHAT ABOUT “DIAL-A-MIX” SPRAYERS?
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING A DIAL-A-MIX!
Why not? This following video provides the TOP 5 REASONS WHY WE DO NOT RECOMMEND A DIAL-A-MIX HOSE END SPRAYER!
The details for each of the following reasons are in the video above but here’s the short “list”:
- Too many moving parts that will break.
- Inability of the Dial-A-Mix to remove thick concentrates.
- The filter at the bottom of the straw will get clogged.
- They’re super wasteful.
- Its super hard to gauge how much you’ve used.
In summary, we don’t promote or recommend using any “dial-a-mix” sprayer so if you purchase any of our products and attempt to use one to apply our products, we can’t offer support. This is due to the dial-a-mix being inconsistent with what it sprays, how it mixes and overall, how it leads to failures compared to the designs detailed above.
