I just applied your lawn granules and I’m not clear if I should water them in or no? There wasn’t anything on your product page on this and I’m just starting the new season so want to do it right. I usually get pearls in another month and want to keep them away so hoping this will help. Thanx!
We get this question a lot so no worries. And so we’ll use this post as a good way to outline the guidelines to follow for anyone who might ask.
So first, our granules are very fine and designed to penetrate down into the ground. Unlike most that sit atop soil targeting pests like large roaches, ours will be most effective for reaching pests that like to nest deep down in the soil. Pests like clover mites, springtails, ground pearls and more.
They’re designed to release over 30 days and overall, do a good job of accomplishing that goal except for where its very arid (like the desert) or when applied to any region experiencing a drought. So if you reside where it will rain a few times (or more) in the next month, there is no need to water if you have been using them every 1-2 months for the past few months.
But since this is your first time using them and you either have an active issue or are looking to prevent pests, we strongly recommend watering to help get the active ingredient released. This can be done with any irrigation system or garden hose.
Now let’s say you’re a regular customer who has effectively “solved” their pest issue but are still treating to insure they don’t have them come back. If that was the case, there would be no need to water.
Lastly, in some cases the time of year may be relevant. So if it’s Jan-Feb-March-April, you’ll probably want the active ingredient to release and so watering is more commonly done during these months.
But if it’s Oct-Nov-Dec, watering won’t be as critical because this is when most pests will be slowing up activity due to the temperature changes. During these months, you can rely on Mother Nature to water them in naturally.
Worth mentioning is how spraying over the top of the granules with something like MAXXTHOR might influence whether watering is still important or not so much.
So lets say it’s March and you’re finding ground pearls active a few inches down under your grass. In that scenario, we’d recommend both the Granules and the Spray. And the spray should be applied right after the granules.
If that’s being done, there would be no need to water in the granules. Spraying the Maxxthor with any of our hose end sprayers would provide plenty of water to help mitigate the active pest and water in the granules at the same time.
Hope this helps!
