I’ve been using base oil with my xempt ec now for 3-4 treatments and haven’t seen springtails coming out since the second application. I plan on treating every 1-2 months, especially around the windows. do I need to keep using base oil? what if i went back to water? water is mostly free lol and i’d like to save some money but if you say its needed, i’ll keep using it.
If you check our PENETRATION article, you’ll see that even when mixed with water, XEMPT EC will be very good at repelling pests. It won’t penetrate as far but in the big picture, this may not matter if you’ve already established a strong SATURATION COEFFICIENT.
Ultimately the decision is up to you. Our goal is to let you know the difference between the two. And if you understand what to expect from each for different areas in the home, maybe you can best decide?
Here’s a quick explanation.
So when using base oil, you will get the deepest penetration. This could prove to be super helpful if you’re trying to create a “buffer zone” under points of entry like BASEBOARDS. But once you reach the saturation coefficient or more importantly, once you aren’t seeing pests coming out? There probably won’t be much more benefit using the base oil. So these same areas would still benefit from the Xempt EC being injected but do you need to keep trying to get it super deep? Not if the insects are gone to your satisfaction.
Conversely, if you’ve treated this area 3-4 times, don’t have anything active for a few months but then discover something is coming out? Going back to the Base Oil would make sense.
As for non porous surfaces, like the window sashes and sills, using water as the carrier should be fine since the treatment isn’t getting past the frame (assuming its plastic, composite or some other non porous surface where the windows slide up and down.
In summary, there will be times when going back to water will be fine based on whether or not the treatment can penetrate and whether or not you’re seeing active insects. Obviously if there is a lot of unwanted activity or if targeted pests have come back after a few months of no sightings, renewing the area with base oil may be required.
But if you haven’t seen anything in months and are just doing some maintenance, water mixtures will still help!
