Hello, I’m looking to handle a bagworm problem. It looks like I should purchase the dormant oil and use that now before they hatch and then use the bifen on them? Once they die will they still hang from the tree or will they eventually drop? Do I have to worry about this each spring?
Bagworms can be treated during the cold months of winter and early spring using DORMANT OIL. But once spring arrives, you’ll be better served using a mixture of Maxxthor and Boost. More on this process can be read about in our bagworm article here:
Bagworm Control: https://bugspray.com/article/bagworm
Maxxthor EC: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/liquid/maxxthor-ec
Boost: https://bugspray.com/catalog/insecticide/additive/spread-x-boost-adjuvant
Now in theory, a good treatment will the Dormant Oil will get most of them. But is it likely all will die before summer? No. That’s why treating with the Maxxthor for 2-3 months is strongly suggested to insure you knock them out for good.
As for the treated bags; they won’t drop off your trees immediately but over the course of the summer, most will fall away. And if you do a good job treating, they shouldn’t return next season so no, you won’t have to worry about treating every spring.
