We have multiple species of wooly worms that are invading our back patio every day by the hundreds. How do we repel them? Don’t want to kill them but I’m tired of walking around them and still stepping on a few. We have been sweeping the patio with a broom to remove them.
You have a few options.
The first and what most of our customers use for this pest is to first use a broom or leaf blower to push/blow away as many as possible. Next, they’ll spray the deck with CYPERMETHRIN. This is a true insecticide and it will definitely kill them if they walk on it for 30 minutes or more but in most cases, they will sense its presence and simply stay off the deck to avoid getting killed. Treatments will last 30 days and 1 gallon of mixed material will cover up to 500 sq/ft.

The next option is to spray the deck with NBS REPELLENT. This material is generally used by adding it to deck stain or paint and when applied it will add a natural repellent to the finish. But you can also mix up 3 oz of NBS per gallon of water and spray the deck to repel pests as needed in between paint or stain. Treat with NBS every 2 weeks using a gallon of mixed spray per 500 sq/ft to keep pests away. NBS won’t kill anything but insects don’t like it and will stay off treated surfaces.

Lastly, if your deck is small, you can opt for the PEST RID SPRAY. This product is ready to use with no mixing needed. Basically you just need a good sprayer to apply it. One gallon will cover up to 500 sq/ft and you’ll need to renew the treatment every 2 weeks.
