I was working in the yard and got stung by yellow jackets. they’re going under my bush but can’t tell for sure where the hole is. tons of them all the time and they’re mad as heck. how can I get this treated? pest control wants $300 and they’re not sure it will work right away so they might have come back? what do you suggest?
Yellow jacket nests in the ground where you can see the hole would be easy to treat. So if you can manage to figure it out, get the dust.
This particular dust is both fast acting BUT also long lasting. It can actually get wet and keep working so even if it rains a day after you treat, the dust will remain in the ground fast to act on any hatching eggs soon to emerge.
Known as XEMPT DUST it will get them agitated BUT it will dry them up over night rendering the nest useless in a couple of days. It comes with a tip that allows you to puff it out so we suggest you cut that tip about half way down. This way there is a big hole ready to let the dust come out.
Dress up in layers of clothing, wear gloves, a hat, etc. so there is no chance of getting stung and then if you can find the hole, puff it 5-10 times using about 1/4 jug of the dust. Do this two nights in a row. The dust will be killing them for a few days and if you get enough in the hole and it goes to the needed depth, they’ll be dead in 2-3 days.
The second option and what you’ll need to do if you can’t find the hole is to mix up some PREMISE at the rate of 1/2 oz per 1/2 gallon of water. Once the solution is ready, spray the entire 1/2 gallon over the bottom of the bush where you see them coming and going. Do this for 3 evenings in a row, right after sunset, so they’ll be moving through a “fresh” treatment every day. This formulation you’ll be spraying they cannot detect and so they won’t know to leave. This means over the next few days they’ll be moving through it over and over bringing it into their nest and sharing it will every other member. Within 3-4 days the nest will be dead.
