We have a one acre pond on our property. We live in Michigan. We have water-bugs aka toe biters. Have you had any luck with toe bitters being attracted to this light and dying? I am trying to find a way to reduce the water bug population so we don’t have to worry as much when we want to enjoy the water. No one wants to get bit by these giant water bugs! 🙁
The toe biters here in the states are strong flyers and will commonly migrate toward porch or deck lights. In fact they don’t breath like fish; they need to surface to get fresh air like most insects.
Installing our DOCK LIGHT TRAP along your lakes shore just over the water a few feet will help. The best location to place a trap is generally where you see the most toe biters swimming around. Since the trap uses a photosensor to turn it on, its pretty much maintenance free meaning you just set it up, plug it in and let the trap do all the work. Toe biters will be drawn to the light and eventually start breaching up and out of the water directly to their demise.
