Hi. Can you recommend anything for sanitizing the attic and eliminating scent and bacteria left by rats? I am trying to get after some rats that are getting into my attic. I live across from the beach and close to a bunch of restaurants. I need help!
The company here that seems to specialize in this, “Wildlife Solutions”, wants a huge amount of money to use some kind of spray and to trap them.
We should be able to help. First, watch this video:
As you’ll see, there are steps you should take to get the job done most efficiently. And yes, some safety equipment will be needed. Use a good RESPIRATOR to avoid breathing contaminates.
The droppings, insulation and pretty much the entire attic space should be sprayed or misted with SANNI SHINE. Mix 2 oz per gallon of water and apply the mixture to 500 sq/ft. Results will be immediate so after 30 minutes, you can commence cleanup.
Sanni Shine can remove odor so if the scent isn’t too strong, you should notice it gone after 1-2 treatments. But if its super strong and not completely removing the scent, use our T.O.N.
T.O.N. works only odor. Essentially it breaks down the scent molecules that allow odor to get air borne. By dismantling the molecules, no odor will volatilize.
Treatments work instantly and will remove smells from dead bodies, smoke, food, feces and more. Use 4 oz to a gallon of water.
Use a good PUMP SPRAYER or our MINI MISTER.
If you’re afraid of over spraying, get the MINI MISTER for small areas.
The following “short video” shows how this fogger works and why its so well suited for small jobs in the home.
Ideal for use in living spaces, the Mini Mister can be used in Crawl Spaces or Attics assuming you can move around well and reach all the areas needing attention. For big spaces, our Bugspray Fogger below may be needed.
For large rooms or if the Mini Mister won’t reach far back enough, get our BUGSPRAY FOGGER.
The following “short video” shows how this fogger works and why its adjustable volume control lets you get the right setting for fogging inside or outside the home.
After one treatment (assuming you have access to all areas), the odor will be gone 99% of the time. Give it a few days to confirm its clear and then prepare the area as desired.
Lastly, be sure to install some of our SOUND REPELLERS for ending the problem permenantly. Sealing holes can help but as our post on “How to keep Rodents from Returning to your Home” explains, there is no way you can keep them out if they want in.
How To Stop Invading Rodents: https://bugspray.com/eliminate-animal-odor-to-stop-rodents-from-returning
As our article explains, rodents rely on nothing but “odor” or “scent” to track their way around homes and yards. And once a house is marked as a good place to live, well, you’ll be subject to ongoing invasions unless you take these scent trails away. NNz will get that job done for sure so use it outside the homes perimeter too. And of course, installing our sound repellers will greatly help.
Give us a call if you need more help but no doubt you can tackle this problem yourself if you’re so inclined. And in the process, you’ll be able to save yourself a lot of money.

Yolanda,
If you read our article above, you’ll see we detail exactly what you need to do. First remove all droppings and mess the rodents left. Next, treat with Rough and Ready. Next, with NNz and lastly, install some of our sound repellers for a “permanent” solution.
