Hello, I am at a loss and need some help. Recently I have started experiencing daily encounters with dung beetles inside my home. I cannot tell where they are coming from but I am guessing that they are coming in through the fireplace. How can I rid myself of these or what product would you recommend I purchase in order to tend to my issues. Whatever guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Dung beetles will invade homes under certain conditions. The most common is when they are so abundant around the home that because of their numbers, some end up inside during their normal day to day activity.
So the first thing you should do is a thorough inspection of the outside lawn and other turf areas to see if you notice any out and about. And remember, if you have animal feces present, assume the feces are attracting dung beetles. This commonly happens when yards have rabbit, dog, cat, deer or other animal excrement and even if you don’t see the beetles active, they could be well concealed.
So if your yard tends to accumulate any kind of animal feces, treat it with the CYONARA RTS we have listed in our DUNG BEETLE CONTROL article.
Also in the article are two products listed for inside treatments. The first is CYPERMETHRIN. This should be used around any exterior points of entry. Common areas where they can enter include windows, doors, exterior lights, vents, chimneys, etc.
And for inside the home, PHANTOM AEROSOL should be used where you notice activity. So in this case, you’ll want to treat the entire fireplace but then you should also treat “up” the flue.
This can be done by opening the flue and then directing the aerosol up and letting it spray for 10-15 seconds. The flow of air with the flue open will help carry the aerosol up the flue so it will coat any animal excrement that might be up there like bat or bird droppings.
Chimney flues commonly attract animals and once active in this space, there will be droppings. And as you know, the droppings can attract dung beetles so chimneys happen to be one of the more common route of entries for this beetle. But if you treat it well with Phantom, the problem should go away after 2-3 days.
