Does Ropel work to stop porcupines? And will Ropel damage Trex decking?
ROPEL can be used on most any surface. Especially outside. So its fine for use on trex decking; it won’t stain or mare the finish.
So to get desired results, you’ll need to spray heavy, pretty much to the point of runoff, and you’ll need to apply some at least once a month. Coverage will be 500 sq/ft of surface area per gallon of Ropel.
You should also install YARD GARD ULTRA SOUND DEVICES pointed at the areas you want to protect. Since porcupines are mostly nocturnal, you’ll want these devices running all night long and in “continuous” mode. In other words, don’t rely on having them run on batteries only. It won’t work. You’ll need the full, continuous sound waves to repel porcupines. Fortunately these units are inexpensive to operate and have an “always on” switch so you merely have to plug them in and turn them on. They don’t even have to be permanently mounted.
Now how long should you keep them running? Certainly 2-4 weeks to insure the porcupines leave and stay away. And after you decide they’re gone for the time being, you can take them in but be ready to install them again should new animals come around.
