Hi, I want to spray bifen xts and spreader sticker up into 30 ft tall trees for cicadas. Was looking at the gilmore #390 hose end model but read elsewhere that it does not spray upwards that well. Could you comment on that and /or recommend something else that will work for such conditions? Thanks.
The BIFEN XTS and SPREADER STICKER combo is exactly what you need for CICADA CONTROL. And having sold thousands of the GILMOUR 6 GALLON HOSE END sprayer, I’m sure it can do the job as long as you have enough water pressure. Let me explain..
Basically the way hose end sprayers are powered is based on the water pressure coming out of your water hose. Now at my home, I have tremendous pressure. In fact, I can reach up 35 feet. So for my needs, hose end sprayers work well. And I’ve tested all the models we carry and for the most part, they all pump equally as high (which makes sense if its the water pressure that powers them).
So when you read or hear about anyone not getting a good performance from a hose end sprayer, its invariably related to poor water pressure and not the sprayer itself. And with that being said, the question has to be asked: do you have strong water pressure at your home?
To find out, test it. Basically you only have to drag your water hose to any of the trees you want to treat and then using most any basic spray gun nozzle, see how high you can reach with nothing but water. If you can reach 30 feet or more, you should be fine using the 6 Gallon Hose End.
But if you find the water pressure isn’t quite strong enough for your needs, consider getting our TROMBONE SPRAYER. This device can reach up 30 feet and is commonly used for tree spraying. Basically the sprayer siphons out a mixed spray and is powered by you “sliding” the sprayer back and forth like a trombone.
