I was hearing sounds in my attic but all i could find were big water bugs. Do they sound like a mouse up there? I had mice a long time ago but cleaned it all up and now its still clean and empty. What should I spray for the big roaches?
Large roaches like the AMERICAN or ORIENTAL can get to 2+ inches long. Once that big, they can be heard crawling if they’re in your attic and you’re just below, you could hear them in the ceiling above. They like to nestle down under insulation and if they dig deep enough to reach the sheet rock, their movement can definitely be heard.
Other insects that make audible sounds include CARPENTER ANTS, CARPENTER BEES and TERMITES.
For now, we recommend XEMPT DUST for the attic if you want to treat. Xempt D will control most any insect and will last 1-2 years. Spraying a liquid up there is definitely not suggested because it can easily puddle and leak through the ceiling below. Plus it won’t last long.
Conversely, applying the Xempt D with the DUSTIN MIZER is pretty easy. More important is that it will cover everything. Be sure to direct the treatment toward the edges. Roaches and other insects like to enter attics just above the facia boards, where they meet the roof line, so the perimeter of the attic is a key area to dust. Same with the external walls.
In the video below, you can see a large PALMETTO BUG on the external wall of an attic. The board its resting on is 2″ wide which gives you a good idea how big it is!
Insects will naturally move onto homes in the fall when trees drop their leaves. If you don’t spray up around your roof line, all kinds of bugs can end up in your attic and from there, its just a matter of time before they get inside your living spaces.

Good advice as usual for Floridians.
