My Husband and I have been struggling with a moth problem in our master bath/closets area. I have done a lot of research and tried many things, a lot of it not very helpful. I finally came across your website and am VERY encouraged by your knowledge, experience and willingness to help customers individually. I am hoping for your advice before ordering.
Our situation:
We live down near Miami so yes, very humid, warm and tropical. I also want to preface this by saying – I keep a VERY clean house free of clutter. We enjoy open space without a lot of “stuff”. We have been in our house right at 2 years – it was recently remodeled including the area I will be talking about.
We have a large master bathroom that includes his and her sides with a large glass shower in the middle as well as a free standing bath tub. We each have a walk-in closet that is located in this bathroom. We noticed some moths in January but didn’t realize they were moths at the time and there were just a few. I couldn’t figure out what they were and thought at first maybe they were sink moths – but that didn’t turn out to be it as they weren’t coming from there and persisted after treating the sinks/drains. The moths persisted and seem to be more. We did start to see some in the losets though more in mine. SO – I read some online (and did what i came to find out is a BIG NO NO) and put pheromone traps in the closets and near my vanity side. Also in our study which is the next room to our master bedroom. I have not seen any moths in the master bedroom so far. The traps caught a lot of moths and kept doing so though the problem got worse. I emptied both closets completely (big job) and literally washed or dry cleaned everything in them, everything. I did not put anything back in the closets, it is all in a room segregated on the other side of the house. So, the closets are empty, I have vacuumed and wiped down the closets, the vanity- pulled all the drawers out etc etc. So everything has been cleaned out for a week but I had the traps still in place until I found your site the other night and threw them all out (doubled bagged and in the outside trash) at midnight!! I have also cleaned the study – it had a rug in there that is wool – it has been cleaned too and is still in the bag in the garage.
So at this point we are still seeing moths in the master bath area but now we are starting to see dead moths too. That is new, it was always the live ones kinda hiding out on the wall or molding until you try to get it and it flies a little. I don’t know if this is a good sign or if it doesn’t mean anything and is just wishful thinking. I will say that we never saw any damage on our clothes and I have a lot of cashmere and silk nor have i seen any larvae or webbing on anything. I am pretty sure they are closet moths – they are about 5mm, kinda brownish.
I am looking for HELP!! What should we do to treat this? I called both local and national pest control companies and no one really offers specific treatment for this. If you have some advice on which products to use we would really appreciate it!!
Thank you so much for listening! Mikaela Mc.
This is an easy one.
First, loose all the Moth Traps. In most of Florida, there are several species of fabric moths active all year long. By placing out Moth Traps, you’re luring them to your home ALL YEAR LONG!
They’ll be entering through all the air vents, attics, doors, windows, etc. And once they get inside, they’ll be looking for a mate and well, eventually you’ll have a problem requiring a lot more work.
Once the traps are gone, go with our Aerosols or the Liquid Concentrate featured in our CLOTHING MOTH ARTICLE.

Both can be applied to carpets, walls, ceilings, etc. and since they’re odorless and non-staining, won’t hurt even sensitive surfaces.
Now once the treatments are in place, give them 2 weeks. After that, if you’re still seeing any, treat the areas where they’re still active. In general, the second treatment will solve the issue and with the traps removed, any coming in will be controlled.
Lastly, you might want to get the Odor Neutralizer to rid the home of all the pheromones no doubt “calling” in all the local moths in your neighborhood.
