I’ve been watching your videos & had a question. By spraying the house, are you actually killing the ladybugs that are there or is the product repellant which simply makes them move? We have ladybugs only in the half of our house that’s exposed to the sun – I’m afraid of spraying that section & simply having the ladybugs move over until the product wears out. This is a massive log house – over 4000 square feet… not looking forward to this task but we’re at our wits end.
It depends on which spray you use. In fact the best one is the CYPERMETHRIN. It will both kill any present, any that land on the treated surfaces and it will repel them from the area. Now the NBS ADDITIVE is only a repellent and really best to use before a problem exists so in this case, I suggest you go with the Cypermethrin.
The good news is if you get the sunny sections of the home treated, you’ll achieve success. No doubt this is the “important” part of the treatment and this should be done in the fall, on any warm day in the winter when you see them active and all the way through to spring. Use a good PUMP SPRAYER to make the application; a TROMBONE SPRAYER may prove invaluable if you have to spray over 15 feet up.
In the end, if you follow this process by treating these times of the year, you’ll get control of this ladybug problem and really, it won’t be too difficult.
Now if you’re seeing ladybugs inside the home, it will take a bit longer to get control and more types of spray. This is true because once they start coming inside, the outside treatments alone won’t solve the problem because at this point, there are some nesting in your wall voids, etc. For this level of a ladybug problem, you’ll need to treat inside with either the PHANTOM or DFORCE (both of which are listed in our LADYBUG CONTROL article).
Lastly, once you get them off the home, simply treating 1-2 in the fall will keep them away for good and in the end, all you’ll need to do so the home can remain ladybug free all winter long.
