How to get rid of geckos?
We’ve got several options listed in our GECKO CONTROL ARTICLE. As you’ll learn, its generally good to reduce their food supply by spraying the yard with one of the chemicals we have listed.

Next, apply PEST RID GRANULES and PEST RID SPRAY. where they’re active. These repellents will chase the geckos away immediately and should last 30 days. Apply the granules to the ground first and then spray over the top of them along with any decks, railings, house siding, etc. where they’re roosting or suspected of hiding.
The granules are packed in a 2 lb jug which will cover up to 500 sq/ft.
The spray comes in quarts and gallons. The quart has a sprayer top (seen above) but the gallon size will require a pump sprayer to apply it.
Here’s a good sprayer for the pest rid:
You can also use a trigger sprayer:

How do you get rid of geckos that get in your house? I live in Florida.

Inside the home, you’ll need to set up 6-12 Lizard Traps. These traps have scented lures that gecko’s find attractive and they’ll readily forage into the trap looking for food. Once they enter, they’ll get stuck. Over a 1-2 month period, you should be able to trap out most if not all of the gecko’s inside the home with nothing but the traps being used.
Traps can be used anywhere but focus their placement in rooms with the most activity. This might be the kitchen, garage, great room, basement, etc. Regardless, it’s important to trap out the current population before you start using the granules or liquid repellents.

Now once you’ve trapped out most if not all the gecko’s inside the home, you can begin using Pest Rid. This product comes in two forms and should be used in “phases”.
So in cases where you have gecko’s inside the home, you need to first use the traps as explained above to reduce their numbers. This is important. If you spray first, you run the risk of scattering the gecko’s throughout the home so don’t spray first; use nothing but the traps.
Now after 1-2 months of using nothing but the traps, you should then apply Pest Rid Granules around the exterior perimeter of the home. These get applied to the ground where they’ll last 1-2 months.

Next, spray the side of the home with Pest Rid spray. This material should be applied to all points of entry which typically exist around windows, doorways, etc. Pest Rid spray and Pest Rid granules are highly repellent to Gecko’s and where applied the lizards will avoid.

Lastly, repeat treatments once a month during seasons with high activity to insure they don’t return.

How do I get rid of geckos on my ceiling on my porch of my house?
Tech Support says
Emily,
This is an easy one. Start with the Pest Rid spray mentioned above. Basically anywhere you spray it gecko’s will avoid. And they’ll avoid it immediately. So all you have to do is spray the ceiling and they’ll be gone and stay away for at least a month.
Now if they’re active around the porch, like on the ground or the siding of your home, you’ll need to treat these areas too.
Again, spray any vertical surface to keep them away using the Pest Rid spray. But if you see them foraging around the home on the ground like in flower beds or in the grass, you’ll need to set out the Pest Rid granules first and then spray over the top.

i have two daschunds. is pet rid spray and granules toxic to the dogs? they eat and lick everything. i would not want to use anything that would kill them or get them sick. if pet rid is not good for pets can you suggest some other means to get rid of geckos. the dogs bark and bark and climb anything to get to the geckos. thank you.

Margie,
Pest Rid would be ideal for your need. Made with food grade actives, it won’t be a hazard to people or pets even if they eat it. That’s the whole reason why Pest Rid is so successful; not only does it repel unwanted pets like lizards, snakes and more, it poses no hazard to people, animals or the local environment where applied. And if they were to eat any? It would be processed like food, digested, etc. and not make them sick. Typically this won’t happen since dogs and cats don’t like the taste and tend to avoid eating it. At least that’s what our customers have been reporting. But again, even if they did, it won’t matter. But if they were to catch a gecko and eat it? No doubt the gecko would pose a much bigger threat to them compared to Pest Rid. They could easily have some kind of reaction from eating it or worse yet, pick up some kind of bacteria since gecko’s typically carry all kinds of bad things you don’t want your pets to be eating.
So with that being said, I suggest you get the granules applied on the ground against the foundation walls under where they’re active. Next, spray over the top with the spray as well as all of the home where you see them roosting, walking, hiding, etc. These areas should be easy to locate if you pay attention to your pets. Most dogs will routinely “see” them better compared to people.
