So I got your lemon air treatment for my sink and started using it last week. I’ve done 3 treatments in one week. I also followed your advice of sealing up the drain when letting it sit overnight. Well turns out you were right they are coming into the sink from somewhere above, not from the drain 🙁 I found like 7 swimming around in the water this morning. Now what do I do? Are they in the cabinet under the sink? I looked above and my kitchen window hasn’t been opened since it got hot so maybe there in there?

Springtails will thrive in most any sink or tub drain and so its good that you’ve been treating with LEMON AIR. And don’t forget other drains in the home as well their related overflow voids. Untreated tubs, showers and sinks can easily develop issues if you’re only treating one sink because the other drain lines become more likely to develop activity over time. Now if you don’t have them active in other areas, treat them once a month to make sure they don’t get infested too.
As for the drain with activity; our data shows that nearly 90% of sink/tub/floor drain activity is coming from the surrounding area. In other words, they are not coming “up” from the drain.
In fact what is happening is that they are going to the drain because the home is so dry and they require moisture to live. And since they can jump 4-5 feet at a time, they will easily migrate from areas in that room to the most “moist” spot they can find.
Remember, any living around the sinks edge, where it sits in the countertops, the overflow part of the sink/tub, baseboards, etc. could all be contributing and not the drain itself.
So at this time, start thinking about areas very close to the drain.
You’ve done the suggested “sink drain test” and by keeping water in the drain after treating before you retire, you’re finding them floating around so we now know they’re coming from above. But now the real detective work started.
I say that because even though they are most likely coming to the sink from somewhere very close, they could be hopping to it from afar.
This means you’ll need to take aggressive action using our POWER INJECTOR and PEST XEMPT EC.
As for that window you mentioned? That would be our first guess for where some nests could be. Most any window that opens/closes will be a prime nest sight for sure. We suggest you open it up and wipe down the window runners with the mixed up Lemon Air, same strength as you pour down the drain. It won’t last but 5-10 minutes out in the open so not as strong as Xempt EC BUT it will kill them.
You can also wipe down the countertop, splash back wall if you have one and definitely around the sink, where it sits in the counter. With any luck, the Lemon Air used in these areas will knock out any pocket nests you saturate.
But if you keep finding them like this, you’ll need to get Bithor and Xempt EC so you can do the more tedious treatments to reach their inside living spaces (most likely BASEBOARDS). This is where our MINI-MISTER and/or POWER INJECTOR can really help.
