what kind of snake?

May 21, 2015 By Tech Support Leave a Comment

I was in my front yard fogging for MOSQUITOES with my MIST BLOWER and discovered a snake under a tree. It was petty passive and didn’t move away when I tried to get it to leave. The problem is they seem to like hanging around my front porch so I used my SNAKE TONGS to capture it for the attached photo. Can you tell me what kind of snake it is?

Snake in front yard!

Great catch! Looks like a common black rat snake. Generally they’re wary of people and will stay away unless there is a good food source nearby like chipmunks, rats or mice. To keep them away, set out XEMPT-G. The 2 lb box will protect jug can cover up to 500 sq/ft. It comes in 8 oz bags and each bag can “draw a line” along property borders to keep snakes and other pests from crossing over into the yard.

Xempt G uses all natural ingredients at a dose snakes do not like. They have a distinctive “wintergreen” aroma and will last 60 days per application. If you spray Pest Away over the granules, you’ll get 90 days of residual from treatments so you only have to treat 2-3 times a year.

Xempt G is packed 4 bags to a box; each baggie is .5 lbs and will cover up to 125 sq/ft.

If you’re looking for a more “permanent” solution, install our SOLAR POWERED GROUND STAKE REPELLERS along property borders. When put in place where snakes might enter your yard, the sound and vibration they release will keep them and other reptiles away. Our repeller is one of kind and not available for sale elsewhere. Our units have a unique system to chase a range of animals including moles, voles, snakes and lizards.

This short video (less than 60 seconds long) shows how our Ground Stake Repeller works:

YouTube Video

First, design uses the sun to charge an on board battery so the device runs on its own, around the clock. The main way it works is by releasing a vibration that will both move the ground and create a sound wave snakes do not like. It will vibrate several times a minute constantly rotating its cycle. But it also sends out “buzzing sound”. In general, these sounds are subtle and barely detectable by people but lizards and snakes do not like them. Where deployed reptiles will avoid.

In addition to vibration and audible beeps, our design also uses several LED bulbs located on the underside of the controller head. These subtle lights will pop on/off when it gets dark. This makes the units look “evil” and makes invading animals unsettled. This happens because they perceive the lights to be coming from a potential predator. Combined this with the vibration and audible sound and you can effectively keep foraging lizards out of the yard for good.

If the above video wasn’t informative enough, this next one is a lot longer but provides all the details you’ll need to know:

YouTube Video

To properly install units, plan on placing them along property borders spacing them out every 25-50 feet. Coverage is circular so approaching snakes will detect the unit from afar and stay clear of where they’re active.

The exact coverage will vary depending on soil type. So for loamy soft soil like that found along lake shores or the ocean, you can plan on getting 4,000-5,000 sq/ft of coverage per unit. But for hard pan, 6,500 to 7,500 sq/ft per unit will be possible and then some.

Setting up these units requires a little “charging” time. They come with a little power and the head is separated from the bottom stake. We advise setting the controller head in sunlight at least 2 days so the battery gets fully charged and ready to go to work. This way they go afield under full power making them best suited to get the job done.
