I was about to dust the siding on my house this spring but then you came out with the power inj. Should i use that instead? My cover mites are level 3 and have been in the siding for awhile. Last year I found your site on reddit and got your maxx with bost and it really helped. After 3 treatments I didn’t see many and none inside but i know they’re still there. I was planning on dusting from the gutters down but watched the vids on the injector and I think this would be better. Siding is vinyl.
We’ve had several inquiries asking this exact question and here is how we suggest you proceed.
Based on what we know about WOOD TREATING for TERMITES and other wood eating pests, MAXXTHOR EC and BASE OIL will last pretty much indefinitely when applied to wood inside the home like sill plate, rafters and floor joists. Normally this wood won’t be subject to rain or weather so the chemical locks in and is very stable – especially since the base oil enables it to penetrate through and through. But behind home siding, it will probably break down in 6-12 months due to humidity and even water flow common to most any home siding. So compared to the dust, it probably won’t last a long (remember, Xempt dust is water tolerant).
That said, with the POWER INJECTOR, you can reach much deeper into the void and in turn, knock out an active problem immediately. XEMPT DUST won’t work nearly as well.
For this main reason, we have been advising everyone to Power Injector first. This way you can get control of an active problem and in theory, eliminate the infestation for good. And since treatments should still last 3-6 months, its not likely you’ll need to retreat more than 1-2 a year anyway.
So if you have been using Maxxthor and see positive results like you’re reporting, there is no reason to move away from it. For now, get the Power Injector and stick with the Maxxthor. The early results from everyone using it are impressive. It appears the acute impact is very encouraging with less followup needed since it works so fast and gets them where they are nesting.
The dust will still be ideal for inside treatments where you can’t spray a liquid, like up high in a wall. So for electric outlets, under light switch covers, attics and air vents, the dust will be the way to go. But where you can inject a liquid, the Power Injector is by far superior for any active problem and well suited for home siding, around window frames, door frames and under baseboards.
