I read in your website that springtails are probably in every house or building. But we never saw them till this summer and we lived here for 21 yrs now. And then bam, its like they’re all over. First floor, windows, ceiling up stairs. How did they get in so many places so fast? And why are they just now coming out? We’ve been rattled trying to figure out what we’ve done wrong. I know the bugspray I got at Home depot kills them quickly but that doesn’t seem to get rid of them. Then I read on your site its probably bad to be using it so we stopped and will be ordering your maxthor and bithors. We also thought it was moisture they were seeking or maybe some food crumbs but from your site it says they are just trying to reproduce and this is how they act.
Springtails are in fact like DUST MITES or fungi (mold spores) in that they do try to live everywhere. And for the last 20 yrs in your home, they’ve been able to move about undetected. They were able to expand hidden and out of sight so you never knew they were present.
As natures most important recycler, it’s built in their DNA to at least “try” to expand. That said, they don’t want to be out in the open so they do this in the hidden areas. As we mention over and over again, they are quite happy to live their lives under sill plate (baseboards), wall voids, attics, under roofing, around windows/doors, crawl spaces, under cement and home siding. And in general, this is where they were will try to stay.
So in your case, it’s most likely what happened and now that they’ve expanded into all of these areas, they have no place left but to come out in the open. This doesn’t happen in every home; some new homeowners see them coming out just months after they move in.
And then if you start using any products from big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes, it will probably drive them out more because those products are highly repellent. Same with things like vinegar or DE Dust.
So for now, don’t blame yourself because every home has them whether you see them or not. And if you start treating the way we explain using the products we’re recommending, they’ll be gone in a few months. BUT definitely stop spraying home remedies or anything from the big box stores as those products will just make matters worse.
