I wanted to share my springtail nightmare with bugspray! I had a bad springtail infestation in my sink and found your website article. It was most informative and the part about sinks had what we needed. I started with the lemon drain treatment and that took care of them after a few treatments. I still use it once a week and haven’t seen any till last week!
So last week I was rinsing my dogs water dish and saw several in the sink. At first I was so disappointed like how could they have come back so fast. But then in the bowl and on the bottom side they were in the rubber edge! So that’s when I realized they didn’t come up the drain line at all! I went back to where we feed the dog and sure enough, they were along the wall and baseboard. Its a mud room with cement floor but enclosed and they must be coming in through the wall.
Well I treated that room good with the FS aerosol and no more in his dish in the morning 🙂
So now I’m thinking I probably infested my own sink by carrying springtails every morning? Is this even possible??
Tech Support: As crazy as this sounds, there is a good chance you probably did! We’ve seen this happen with ants and roaches. So whether its the water or the pet food, both can attract pests which get in or under the bowl. And then when you bring the bowls to the sink to rinse or wash, the bugs get relocated. And just because they go down the drain IT DOESN’T MEAN THEY DIE!
This observation also confirms what we’ve been saying forever! Hopefully others can learn from it; just because there are bugs in the sink, it DOES NOT mean they are coming up from the drain! Now in most cases, they’re coming from around the sink where it “sits” in the counter or maybe the cabinet or ground lines around it. Especially if the home is on a slab. But as you’ve witnessed, they can literally be coming from another part of the home!!
So for now, its good that you treated the room but don’t forget outside! If they’re active on the exterior walls they’ll start penetrating elsewhere.
