THE CEILING OF MY BOAT DOCK IS INFESTED WITH MUD DOBBER NESTS THAT KEEP FALLING INSIDE THE BOAT. WHAT DO YOU RECCOMEND THAT I SPRAY THE CEILING WITH AND DO YOU SELL THE PRODUCT? PETER
No doubt mud daubers love boat docks and boats. I happen to keep my boat under a covered dock and have the same exact problem. But I found a cure a couple of years ago and its easy to do, clean and works great. I only have to treat 2-3 a year.
First and foremost, its not a liquid spray. As you can imagine, using a liquid would be messy (and dangerous for the water under the dock) so the MAXXTHOR we mention in our MUD DAUBER ARTICLE is not an option when dealing with a boat dock or any other place that’s over water. But a few years ago an aerosol came to market that’s oil based. Its able to penetrate the thick mud and in doing so, can kill all stages immediately. This is something most products cannot achieve.
I actually use it on my boat about once a month. Basically I lightly mist the railing, rod holders, trolling motor, anchor and especially all the air vents to the motor compartment.
Spiders hate it and will avoid any surfaces where its been sprayed or wiped on. I also mist the boat covers (two large ones) throughout the summer a few times so mud daubers don’t make nests on the bottom side. FS MP is strong enough to be detected even on the bottom side and once in place, does a great job of repelling all insects actually.
Since my dock is covered, spiders love to spin webs on the tin roof. This is a nightmare. Their droppings are like glue once on the boat or tarp covers so I treat the root with the FS MP as well.
To reach the roof, I use our 20 FOOT AEROSOL POLE. I connect our PRO CAN HOLDER to the top, secure the FS MP to the holder and then using the long pull string, activate the spray once I reach up getting it close to the roof top.
The can holder screws on and has a “clamp” like cable tie that super durable and long lasting. Simply slide the FS MP into the holder, tighten the band onto the can and you’re all set to reach up 25 feet (assuming you’re at least 5 feet tall) and treat hard to reach nests.
I suggest getting the FS MP, one of our Poles and the can holder so you too can manage this problem effectively. Rest assured, the investment is well worth it. Oh, and you can use it around the home too for spider webs, wasp nests, etc. Great tool.
