Every time I lift a rug off our carpet or move a piece of furniture I spot a few maggots crawling around in our carpet. This is the only time I see them but it does happen every time I move something. I am tempted to get the AEROSOL SPRAYER for flying bugs (which we do have with some frequency) and spray the carpet to treat for the little buggers; however I have two kittens and don’t want to harm them by applying something. Are these things safe for small kittens? Thanks!
The AEROSOL MACHINE and some METERED INSECTICIDE would be a fine way to treat this problem. And it would be perfectly safe for use in rooms where people and pets are active. All the refill options use pyrethrin for an active ingredient which doesn’t provide residual or a hazard to mammals which is why these products can be used in food processing plants, restaurants, etc. But this same active works well on flying pests and any type of maggot so setting up a single machine in any room with activity should do the job fine.
Alternatively you can get some BEDLAM PLUS and treat the carpet manually. This option will provide a “residual” that will stop maggots and other pests like carpet beetles and fleas. Treatments will last 2-3 months so this would be an alternate option to consider if you also have to deal with fleas.
Of course, this won’t get gnats, mosquitoes, fruit flies or any other flying pest like the aerosol machine but since your immediate problem is in the carpeting only, I felt I should at least mention this option.
