Wasps and their stings can be pesky, but when an infestation occurs at your home it can be dangerous. Check out our WASP TREATMENTS article to learn how to control and prevent wasp infestations.

How Do You Know Wasps are Building a Nest in Your Yard?

Understanding how to identify and prevent wasp nests from forming in your yard is vital if you want to avoid a sting from these pesky insects. Even though you may see one or two wasps flying around, there could be dozens or even hundreds of them living in your backyard. Using the correct wasp repellents makes it easier to keep them away each year. Read on to learn more about these pests and how to stop them in their tracks.

Nest Appearance

If you find yourself dealing with angry wasps and want to get rid of them, you should first figure out where they are nesting. Wasps can build their nests almost anywhere. Paper wasps make their nests out of paper and are commonly found hanging off soffits and overhangs. Mud daubers use mud and love to build them on stucco and brick. You can identify parasitic wasp nests by the larvae found inside of them which will look like maggots.

Wasp Behavior

A variety of outdoor activities can attract wasps including playing sports and other games, an outdoor gathering, or simply enjoying the fresh air on the deck. If you notice wasp activity, you should take precautions. Worker wasps can sting without warning, and if disturbed, entire nests can attack. It’s best to kill them before they become increasingly active during late summer when they have more eggs to protect. Keep yourself safe by buying an effective repellent and applying it early in the season. Make sure to read our instructions carefully when using the either of the products below.

Wasp Treatment

First, it is crucial to understand that not all wasp repellents and pesticides are the same. Some contain the active ingredients that kill, and others use an active that just repel.

To repel wasps, PEST AWAY is an excellent choice. This all-natural organic solution is safe to be sprayed on plants and flowers. Made with strong essential oils, it will not kill insects, yet it will discourage wasps and other pests from entering treated areas again. Simply mix 2 oz to a gallon of water and spray any area around the yard and home where wasp activity is. One gallon of mixture covers ~800 sq ft, and treatments lasts ~30 days. Retreat at least once a month to scare off paper wasps, mud daubers, carpenter bees and even carpenter ants!

If you have to reach up super high, our 6 GALLON HOSE END SPRAYER would be the way to reach as far as your garden hose can spray. Add 2 oz of Maxxthor to it then fill it halfway with water. Next hook it to your hose, turn the water on and spray all nests, eaves, gutters and overhangs for a quick wasp kill.
