We have several old outbuildings on our property and have a massive wasp problem. I am sure these buildings are infested inside (I don’t go inside) and we see a large number of wasps on the outside during the summer. Anything we have tried has proven to be effective on the wasps sprayed but does nothing for the infestation. We also have a problem with dirt daubers on our two story house. Any advice on how to get rid of these two issues?
If you review our WASP and MUD DAUBER articles, you’ll learn about all the treatment options which can be used to stop both these pests. And they’ll work for the whole season where you apply them. In other words, you don’t have to spray the wasps directly to stop them. Just treat once every 1-2 months with these actives and you’ll stop all the wasps from landing and nesting on the treated buildings as long as you keep renewing the applications.
The first thing you’ll want to do is to apply DRIONE DUST all the way around each building. Drione is a smokey, light dust which all insects hate and will avoid. Apply it into every nook, crack and crevice you can find. This will both kill and repel any wasp from the treated areas. Get some up under siding, around facia boards, soffits, overhangs, etc. Basically any type of hidden crack or space you can find.
Next, spray the siding and overhangs with CYPERMETHRIN. This material is quick acting and highly repellent to wasps. Like the Drione, they’ll be able to detect it’s presence and once they know its there, they’ll stay off the treated surface. Renew the treatment monthly and you should be able to keep wasps away for good.
