My jasmine buds are always targeted by a range of insects. Budworms seem to love them but other pests too. I need a spray to stop the budworms but it seems what I try hurts the plants and I have to use it over and over. Do you have something long lasting and gentle?
Jasmine buds are highly nutritious and sought after by a range of insect pests. The budworm loves them and will eat entire buds if left untreated. The good news is they’re easy to treat.
So our best product for most all flowers and plants is ADONIS. This is very gentle and you can spray it on plants but you can also use it as a systemic.
To spray buds and the entire plant, mix .15 oz per 10 gallons of water. If you have a large power sprayer like a 100 gallon unit, this works out to just 1.5 oz per 100 gallon tank.
For small areas, use .15 oz in our HOSE END SPRAYER along with enough water to fill it to the 10 gallon line.
The great thing about Adonis is that you can also treat the soil so plants will absorb the active systemically. One treatment per year will provide ongoing long term control. Plan on using .5 oz per 1000 sq/ft of plants. Direct the spray to the base of the spray making sure it seeps into the soil. You can use a standard watering can to make the application or the hose end above. Just make sure enough product is applied per 1000 sq/ft.
It will take a good 2-3 weeks for the treatment to be absorbed by the plants so we always recommend spraying the plants exterior if you have an active problem. But if you soil drench at the start of the growing season, you can effectively stop pests from every getting established.
