Hi there, a couple months ago these little guys started showing up around the window sill above my sink. What are they and how do I get rid of them? Thanks, Erik
They look like WAREHOUSE BEETLES. These little guys will commonly live inside food items like pasta, cereal, flour or pet food. Basically any kind of stored product one might get from the market. From the food adults will migrate looking for new areas to lay eggs so new infestations will commonly develop in cabinets, pantries, baseboards and other areas in and around the kitchen.
Adults can fly well and will target new areas on which to lay eggs. They’re also naturally attracted to light so windows are a common place for homeowners to find them roosting.
To control local infestations, you’ll need to discard any food item suspected of being infested. Next, all cabinets and pantries will have to be treated with either DFORCE or PHANTOM aerosol. And if you suspect they might be nesting in other areas of the home (they will readily lay eggs on carpets and furniture), liquid treating with PERMETHRIN 10 or DEFENSE SC is the way to go for large, open areas.
Lastly, set out HANGING TRAPS around any window where you find them flying and place out several SURFACE TRAPS in the back cabinet corners.
