I have a large room above my 3 car garage. Around the middle of October each year, we have hundreds of ladybugs on the windows, ceiling and walls. I vacuum them up, but I have to do that for about a week or two every other day. What would be the best trap to use in this case? And can I stop this from happening every year? Thank you.
Ladybugs will be flocking to homes they’ve used for hibernating every fall. This activity and how to control it is detailed in our LADYBUG ARTICLE which covers all treatment options for both inside and outside the home.
In your case, setting up our LIGHTED LADYBUG TRAP will help collect any in the room. Keep the trap on when its dark and make sure no other lights are on for the trap to be most effective.
Ultimately, stopping them from using your home is the best way to control the problem. This can be done by spraying the homes exterior with the CYPERMETHRIN listed in our article. Mix 1 oz per gallon of water and spray all the siding they’re using. In most cases, this will be at least 1-2 sides of the home but treating the whole house may be required. To treat the average home will take 2-3 gallons of mixed solution and it will usually take two applications spaced 2 weeks apart every fall.
