PROTHOR SC 2

Prothor SC 2
Prothor SC 2

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:     Odorless  concentrate classified as a “non repellent” which means insects won’t know its present where applied. This means you can use this active without spooking or chasing insects elsewhere. Designed for use inside crawl spaces, under a homes slab and outside around the foundation and even in the yard, Prothor is a good active for “communal” pests like termites, ants and most any garden or turf pest around the home like grubs and beetles.

WHERE TO USE IT:    Inside the home Prothor can be applied to structural members infested with wood destroying pests, wall voids and sub-slab for termite prevention. In the yard, treat the soil around the home as well as grass, mulch and gardens. Prothor can also be used as a systemic on trees and shrubs for long term control of wood boring pests and insects which target plant foliage.

RATE OF APPLICATION:     When spraying it out over grass or foliage in a standard PUMP SPRAYER, add  .3 to .6 oz per gallon of water.

When treating ants in the yard, add 2.5 oz to our 20 GALLON HOSE END SPRAYER and then fill the sprayer up to the 5 gallon line. Hook the sprayer to a garden hose and spray the entire tank over 5,000 sq/ft. Retreat monthly when ants are seen until they are gone. Once gone, treat every 2 months to ensure they do not return.

SOIL DRENCHING DIRECTIONS:

When soil drenching shrubs and trees, use .1 – .2 oz per inch of tree diameter. So 1-2 oz per 10″ of tree width. Add the chemical to a 5 gallon bucket filled with 3-4 gallons of water. Make 4-8 holes for every bucket you need to use so for a tree 20″ wide, you should use two buckets and 10-15 holes around the tree. Use a stake, something like rebar, to create holes 1-2 feet deep. The liquid should then be poured out over these holes slow enough so the holes will absorb the fluid evenly. Drench within the “drip line” of the tree limbs but not closer than twice the width of the trees trunk to the base of the tree. So if the drip line is 10 feet out from the trunk and the trunk is 2 feet wide. drenching 4-6 feet out from the trunk would be fine.

When treating for termites, mix 1 oz in 2 gallons of water and apply the 2 gallons of mixed solution to every 10 feet of foundation around the structure. Dig a small trench prior to treating to insure the material stays in place during the application. Retreat every 5 years.

For flower beds, plant foliage and turf, .3 to .6 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq/ft will control most pests.

Is Prothor the best spray to use for cicada killers? I have been battling them for weeks with Drione dust, but there are more wasps and burrows than I can keep up with. I recall seeing a video, I believe, that suggested spraying Prothor after the nests were treated. Please email me so we can start up a conversation about my best next move.

      Patrick,

Prothor needs to be used along with the Drione. The dust should be injected on every hole you find and then cap the hole. This will render that specific nest dead and since the dust lasts a long time, kill hatching larvae if there are eggs down in the den.

The Prothor typically is used to blanket an area where there has been activity. Its goal is to kill off foraging adults moving into the territory as well as developing grubs you don’t know about because they haven’t hatched, yet. More on the details of each, how to use them, etc. is covered in our article here:

Great spray! This spray works great. We bought it for leaf eating bees that were eating the the leaves on our eastern red bud tree. Finally no bees. The delivery was slow. Ordered it on the 1st of technology month and received it 14 days later. That was not a 2 to 4 day delivery.

@Joanne Cook: Sorry for the delay in getting your order sent. We were overwhelmed with orders the end of April and into the beginning of May which caused a good week delay in getting them out the door. This is not normal for us and we do apologize but moving forward, we’re back on track and shipping within 1-2 days when an order is received.

I reached out to BugSprayCart.com after a loosing battle with leaf cutter bees invading my front walk. Prothor was recommended to me. It did the job quickly and with only one application. It was a good purchase. I have plenty left over to treat again just before their yearly arrival.

What the Doctor Ordered! My sandy pool area was a playground of about 100 black w. white striped ground digger wasps for several weeks. They have stingers, but happily ignored us. But bare feet couldn’t ignore them anymore. I gave a 5% spray to the sandy areas that had their nesting holes. Voila! The number of wasps are now way down to a tolerable few.

I had an issue of cicada killers nests around the base of three foundation plants. Used the Prothor as directed with a tank sprayer around the base of the plants for two days. No more of these annoying insects after that ! Definitely recommend where using powder would be difficult to apply.

So far so good.. After trying the powder and not getting all of them, the bees came back with bigger holes as described on this site. We used this product a week ago and so far so good. We had good weather, perfect spring – 60’s and low 70’s. Using spray bottle and long nose we sprayed down the holes and on the grass area. We then watered to help soak into the ground. Fingers crossed they are now out of our grass.

We had hundreds of wasps that were outside a third floor screened porch. We sprayed Prothor SC from the inside of the porch, through the screen onto the eaves and ledges outside the screen. That way the outside wasps carried the Prothor SC back into their nest and within three days all wasps were gone. Worked exactly as Bug Spray employee told me it would. Now we can enjoy our porch. Awesome product!

      Pieter,

Prothor is not labeled for use inside unless you’re treating a crawl space so for ants, just outside around the home. For inside treatments, get our Alpine Packs seen here:

      Alpine Spray: https://bugspray.com/insecticide/wettable-powder/alpine-wsg

Mix one pack per 1/2 gallon of water. Non repelling, labeled for use inside and highly effective for use on ants. Makes it a great choice as detailed in our ant control article here:

So far so good. Well we sprayed every place we had digger bees and holes and so far we don’t see any bees but I think it’s going to take some time before I know for sure if it works. We do have very high hopes though. Everything else we tried, we saw these digger bees and new holes the very next day but so far we don’t see any bees or new holes.

      Josh,

In general, it will work great for any species of bee or wasp entering or active on a homes siding. Mix 1 oz per gallon of water and spray the area heavy at dusk when they are generally getting settled and inactive. Do this for at least 3 nights in a row. The slow working non repelling mode of action for Prothor means it won’t spook them or make them mad. Within 2 days you’ll see less activity and within 3-4 days, the nest will be dead. Just be sure to spray at least 1/2 gallon per treatment so you know enough is in place to do the job.

      Nancy,

Fire Blight needs to be fought with a fungicide, not an insecticide. The best agent for this purpose is our Honor Guard seen here:

      Honor Guard: https://bugspray.com/yard/fungicide/honor-guard

Not many products labeled for blight but Honor guard sprayed on the plants foliage AND applied as a systemic will knock out the fungus and keep the trees happy and healthy. We also STRONGLY recommend adding some Montys Joy Juice to your drench buckets. This fast acting fertilizer will readily be absorbed by the trees and get them healthy even faster.

I have an Ash tree but I’ve been noticing for quite some time that the top of the trunk and some branches are very black, like burnt. Is that fungus? How do I treat it and what is the best time of the year to do it.

      Janette,

It could be a fungus or it could be the result of insect damage. In general, the fall is the best time to treat with Prothor for insects and adding some Joy Juice to the solution would be smart. This way the tree might “grow” out the areas of your concern.

      Monty Joy Juice: https://bugspray.com/yard/fertilizer/mont-joy-juice

Adding Fungicide would be smart too if you’re in a southern zone where the winter is short, say 2-3 months.

      Fungicide: https://bugspray.com/yard/fungicide/honor-guard

We can provide more details if you email support@bugspray.com with specifics like how “wide” the tree is at the base of the trunk, how tall it is and how what part of the country the tree is located.

      Eric,
Spraying the tree in the spring will provide a good 2-4 weeks of control when they first get active so yes, it can control them. Ideally soil drenching will prove more effective in the long run since it will last in the tree a lot longer and be better distributed. So if you have a problem? Use it both ways. If you’re looking to prevent them? Systemic soil drenching twice a year should keep them off treated trees.

    Excellent for Carpenter Ants!
    .
Used the product to treat a carpenter ant issue. Several nests were infesting the woods next to our lot and were making their way into our house framework and in search of moisture. Application on the siding, mulch beds, lawn, and foundation above the ground line resulted in removal of the infestation within 24 hours. No carpenter ants over the last month since application!
