TALPIRID MOLE BAIT

TALPIRID MOLE BAIT

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Unique design where the bait is a rubber worm – very similar to the kind used for fishing. Moles feeding on worms rely on feel for identifying their prey since they can’t see. Talpirid worms are placed in tunnels and burrows which are active and as the local mole passes through it will grab the offering every time. These worms mimic real earthworms so well moles won’t know the difference. Once found, the worm will be seized and chewed. At that point a lethal dose of bromethalin will be ingested causing the mole to die in a day or two.

TARGET PESTS: Moles and voles.

WHERE TO USE IT: In active burrows. This is very important and essential for the product to work. The way to identify active tunnels is easy. First, find some tunnels. Every network of tunnels in any yard will have main pathways and then foraging tributaries which “tree” off the main passageway. Main tunnels lead to dens and foraging tributaries are where moles go off looking for food. Foraging tributaries will be used once and then ignored; main tunnels will be used over and over again. It is the main tunnels you need to identify and then bait. The main tunnels are almost always going to be the straightest and can usually be identified once you take the time to evaluate and look closely at the ones you find. Once you identify what you believe are main tunnels, make several “exploration” or inspection holes. These will be small holes, about the size of a pencil, that you must poke through the top of the tunnel into ground. Make these every 3-6 feet and then place some type of marker off to the side so you will be able to find them easily during the next few days. The more exploration holes the better because once you identify where moles are using the same tunnel more then once, you can start to bait. Tunnels that are being reused will be fixed. Upon inspection, you will see the hole is sealed from the inside; moles passing through instinctively fix open sections of their tunnel. They do this to keep out light as well as predators. Once you find a re sealed hole, bait it. Open it back up and place a Talpirid worm down the hole. Place some straw, thatch or other cover over the hole to keep out light but which will enable you to inspect it easily. Check the placement every 12-24 hours and when you see the worm is missing or the hole is sealed, you will know the mole took the bait. Follow this procedure as long as it takes till all activity ceases. Ideally you should have 3-5 holes identified as a main passageway. This will enable you to make 3-5 placements insuring quick acceptance. Though one or two placements can work, the more the better. The key is making sure the placement is done in a tunnel that is being used over and over. DON’T RUSH AND BAIT ANY TUNNEL YOU FIND. Take 2-4 days to create inspection holes and then monitor them to see which tunnels are being used repeatedly. If you order this product, it will probably take a few days to arrive which will give you a head start at identifying where you need to make the placements. Make inspection holes now; by the time your order arrives you will probably know where to start baiting.

RATE OF APPLICATION: 1-2 worms per active tunnel.
